In Space No One Stays Awake
Floating silently through the cosmos, Marvin has the most boring job in the universe - but all is not as it seems...
Estimated Time Of Completion: Quite A While
An homage and mix of genres - E.T.A. spanned four years of production time in the after hours of regular work. My primary goal was to build up an atmosphere of suspense without blowing the end twist before the very last minute. I spent a lot of time on storyboard revisions, previz and our production pipeline while Søren and Michael created most of the 3D models and backgrounds for the film - including the two characters and animation on them. When previz was finally locked down I gathered all of the assets and fine tuned each shot with set dressing, lighting, additional animation and effects before sending everything off to rendering. I then
composited everything and gradually exchanged the previz with completed shots one by one. The film was finally completed in early 2008 just in time for the demoscene party Break Point in Germany where it won the Best Animation prize. It was very rewarding to finish this production and a huge learning experience for me personally.
Later that year it won the Best Talent prize at Aarhus Filmfestival and has since been in competition at more than 26 festivals around the globe, screened at many more. It has been aired on television in several countries and was published on DVD by Stash, Computer Arts and others. Since its online premiere it has been seen by more than one million viewers.
A film well worth the wait
